on your questionaire... i think that having celebrities on the covers of magazines is a wise marketing move, well people identify with them more. i also think, though, that magazines loose prestige because of this, but what it comes down to is money. the more money the magazine makes, the better so vogue, etc, don't care whether or not the magazine is about fashion anymore. it is a sad fact, but at least we know that it hasn't caught up to europe yet, and hopefully it won't.
I believe that having celebrities on the cover instead of models is good.
Before, magazines were only targetted to a limited group of fashion experts, but now, magazines are accessible to a huge group of people. Now, more people, of different interests and different backgrounds buy the magazine. Celebrities are more recognized and people can relate to them more than they can relate to models.
This probably does change, though, fashion magazines' goals, but it is not necessarily to the worse. Magazines, like fashion, have been becoming more accessible to people... Now more people have access to fashion, and can become part of the movement.
if its a serious fashion magazine models should be on cover.i really want to see models, fashion shoots, fashion articles on a magazine.but i have to admit, celebs are selling.the ones who really interested in fashion are going to buy that magazine anyway.but celebs make the others buy it too.
and i have a complaint.i really dont want to see movie stars on fashion advertisements either.keira instead of kate, nicole kidman for chanel no 5,selma blair for chanel etc.dont get me wrong i love them all but i really prefer models when its something about fashion.
I wonder why people like to read about celebs so much? I would rather read about the designers' inspirations, see pics from their "look books" and see runway pictures rather than the boring, repetitive celeb stuff. I cannot make myself really care what Drew Barrymore, Natalie Portman, etc., think and do when I could be reading the inspirations of creative people like Galliano, etc. His collection books are gorgeous (saw a picture of one last summer--incredible display of color, texture, etc. glued into a thick look book). THAT is what a fashion magazine should be about! Personally, I am not much into the ridiculous thing about fashion (like in Dec VOGUE where they wore evening gowns to a washateria--that was stupid, I thought--) but I do like to see fashion in beautiful rooms or something like that. But not goofy stuff. I was reading earlier tonight in a bio about Lee Radziwill that when she worked for Diana Vreeland for Bazaar, Diana liked to have socialites buzzing around and pictured in the magazine wearing the clothes. Bazaar was in its heydey in the 1950s when Lee worked there, and Vreeland did a great job later editing Vogue. What I'm getting at is that I guess back in the 1950s people looked to the socialites and a handful of actresses (Audrey Hepburn) for their inspiration, whereas now the celebs get all of the attention. But I believe that Kate Moss and even Giselle look way better and more interesting than these celebs. I can't get into pictures of Drew, Natalie, Demi, Kiera, etc., even if they do wear the clothes well. And I could care less about their personal lives--but I'll say again that reading about what inspires Galliano or another desire to create a certain element in his/her collection is way more entertaining. I'd like to know what art, music, literature, movies, and other reference points inspire them. Why these colors? Why these cuts? THAT is what's interesting about the fashion world! I'd love to see pages from their show programs! THAT is what we fashion lovers would like to have privy too! Bring us the world of fashion since we can't go there! Well, I sure can't anyway! But as long as mainstreamers i.d. with Julianna Moore and Salma and Penelope, (how boring can you get), they will continue to plaster them everywhere. But one confession: I think Jennifer Aniston is adorable! Though I wish she'd quit wearing so much BLACK and wear some gold, peach, etc. She is so cute when her hair is wavy! But I don't care to read about her--what do celebs even really do with their time? Boring!
Oh, this again! I have ranted enough about this subject...if you never caught my previous STRONG opinions on this matter and really care to know, feel free to view my prior posts. For now I will just say yet again, that "celebrities" have nothing to do with fashion - their stylists do, but they personally don't. What are they so celebrated for anyway? American movies suck, and I couldn't care less about these people's private life.
WHERE ARE THE MODELS??????? BRING THE FASHION BACK TO SUPPOSED "FASHION" MAGAZINES!!!!!!!!!
