Utterly sick and tired of my own thread...so, fashion anyone?
Posted: Jul 30, 2007 3:24 PM

Wow, I am amazed in regard to the responses this thread was getting...I deleted my post because I agree with LouLou and AcidHosre, that this is a fashion forum, not a political one...I'm fairly new to posting here, and I guess I thought it would be interesting to get international points of view, that I have access to here, but not readily available necessarily in the U.S...so thanks for your time, and I think we can all agree that it would be a good idea to move on?! I actually have a fashion question this time! yay! So, what is more important to you personally...wearing what's trendy and in style, wearing whatever you want because you like it, or having a classic look that will be always be "in style?" I feel like I tend to have a more "classic" style, but I recently have been buying some more trendy pieces just because I feel kind of insecure in my white polo and khakis (which I guess is my version of "classic" surrounded by people wearing skinny jeans, and such...It's kind of hard to find a balance between the two, especially when you have a budget...yikes...

Your doing it yourself, the police officer of the world, I am not fond of the expression they are the new Hitlers, but If I think about the USA I have to admit that a lot of people are right. Not only the Arabic world hates you but also Europe. Have you seen the press conference of pres.Bush and prime-minister Gordon Brown of the UK, that says it all. Superpower USA it is only laughable, the only superpower I know is Anna Wintour and I like her a lot.

I agree. I am Canadian, but live in NYC. I love the US it gave me opportunities of a lifetime, and since I live here I respect it. I would not dare go onto an Italian forum or any forum in another country and insult that country! Where is the sophistication, the class????

Secondly, I am not an "ignorant" American (as I have heard often) because, again, I am Canadian by birth. However, I dated an Arab for over 10 years (yes, I won't get into why 10 years and I didn't marry him ....his family in Iraq loooove Americans and if they had any opportunity at all to live in America they would. I also saw an episode of 20/20 years ago of an interview in an Arab country. They asked schoolchildren if they like America and noone responded. However, when the schoolchildren were asked if they could live in America would they consider it, they all got giddy and all raised their hands saying they would love to go.

Basically, what I am saying, is do not generalize that everyone hates the United States. Yes, the country has problems, so do most countries in Euorpe.

But of course, the hatred that lives in these people is something I pitty...

CaroChouette this isn't directed towards you of course, I just clicked on your post to respond to your wonderful thread.

i agree. the biggest problem is lumping millions upon millions of people into one category. there are murders, jerks, idiots, etc of every race, creed, colour and nationality. yes, bush is the "leader" of america, but that does not mean that every american shares his point of view or even voted for him. i am not naive to think that the world does not like what he is doing or america in general for that matter. but to say that all americans are (insert favorite phrase here.) is like saying that every italian is in the mafia or that all columbians sell cocaine or every parisian is fashionable - it sounds just that stupid and ignorant. furthermore, when one drifts off subject to start personally attacking someone and/or their nationality, instead of their actual argument, it shows a weak character and even tarnishing your own nationality.  that is just my take.

I'm not picking on you specifically, but you did say:

"Not only the Arabic world hates you...."

...which I am sure many will agree. But not all Arabs are the same, I am an African-Arab, and I cannot say that I love America because I just can't take the place seriously,..actually forget the place, I can't even take the President seriously. Just because I cannot stand him, or idiotic Rice, or criminal Cheney, it doesn't mean to say that I hate the whole and entire of America.

About the press conference, my God I cannot tell you how proud us Brits are of Gordon Brown. He stood firm and solid, and even gave a high possibility that we will be drawn out of this endless war soon. The way he spoke and the number of issues that he had raised was fantastic, he is such a promising character for Britain. He should have been Prime Minister a long time ago. But a few meter away from him, was Bush, a character that is so dis-connected and dis-funstioned. He didn't even answer the questions, not one. He flew in his own world, and Brown did his best to cover up and provide the actually answers to the questions. No offense to anyone, but Bush is the biggest mess and the biggest joke in the world right now. Forget words that come out of his mouth but even his laugh, which for me was the first time that I have ever heard, is hilarious. I look forward to the day that I hear something sensible from this man...

Not being rude here, but I did struggle a little with what you were trying to say in your comment. In fact, I am struggling with this part:

"But of course, the hatred that lives in these people is something I pitty..."

Who are "these people"? Arabs? Can we be more specific here please?

My 5 year-year old daughter is so patriotic that she herself respects the flag of America but expects the same from me & her dad.  She is beautiful, inside and out, intelligent beyond her years and the most caring human being I've ever known (and I am not being biased).  I do believe that most of Americans are the same.  My heart and soul are here in America, and I take every bit of pride in it.  I do believe we are in a difficult time, but 4th of July always remind us that America has struggled and has gone through difficult times, but we will always prevail.  I pray every night for happiness, health and safety for all people on this planet, regardless of race and religion.  So I don't understand why people hating people just because we are not in the same country, speak the same language and share the same religion.

How am I being the police officer of the world? I am rightly defending a place that I love, where I go to a wonderful college with brilliant professors, have two very hardworking parents, a place that offers limitless opportunities for everyone...you know, there are a great deal of immigrants, including my family, who owe their lifestyle and success and overall happiness to many facets of the U.S. I'm just sad for you, Aducci, because you seem to enjoy inciting drama on these forums, whether it has to do a certain former poster, or by proving my case and further disproving your own by lumping Americans into a stereotype. If you are an American, you should be ashamed. You obviously know very little about the diversity of this country, to feel that you have a right to put us all into one group, never mind putting us in the same league as the government. I am offended as a good friend of a Jordanian that you would venture so say that the Middle East hates us...for some, that may be true. But many others, study here in the U.S. or work here. My father is taking a Muslim-Christian relations course at a local seminary, being proctored by an Imam, and has countless Muslim friends. Plus, I think those  who do "hate us" are Extemist Muslims, who hate the WESTERN world, not just the U.S. or, basically any country that is primarily secular, Christian, or  progressive, etc. I am disillusioned with many of President Bush's actions and comments as well, but you simply cannot assume that every American is in agreement with him or the other members of our government...for those who are, I am sure that they have their reasons, and it is within their right to think what they do. Anyway, at least we can agree about Anna Wintour.

loulou1234 I am not referring to Arabs. I am referring to people who, on this forum, make generalized (mainly negative) statements about a nation, race, or country

don't mistake American FOREIGN POLICY, and america's OFFICIALS with American PEOPLE.  Let's not forget which country's PEOPLE donated more than other nations' peoples COMBINED when the tsunami hit.  So many are so quick to take our aid, and reap the benefits of living in our nation and all they can do is ***** and moan about how much americans suck! Get off your high horse! you know who you are!
